ASU Falls At Denver

DENVER (1/20/11) – The Arkansas State men's basketball team dropped a 74-36 decision in Sun Belt Conference action Thursday night at the Magness Arena to west division leaders Denver.

Denver had one of its best shooting performances of the season to put ASU out of the game early connecting on 7-12 shots from three-point range during the first half and 6-7 in the second half finishing with a 68% percentage from distance on the night.

ASU fell to 10-11 on the season with a 4-3 Sun Belt Conference mark while Denver improved to 10-9 with a 6-0 league mark.

Senior guard Rashad Allison led the Red Wolves with seven points on the night; junior forward Malcoln Kirkland had six rebounds to lead all players on the boards. It was the first time this season that ASU didn't have a single player in double-digit scoring.

“We didn't really stand up and define who we were in any phase of the game from taking care of the ball to battling to just flat out hard work and competitiveness and that's disturbing to me,” said ASU head coach John Brady.

Denver took advantage of 20 ASU turnovers converting those miscues to 31 points. The Pioneers also outscored the Red Wolves in the paint 20-10.

Sophomore guard Tayler Thalken scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Pioneers on the night/ Brian Stafford added 12 and Chris Udofia added 10.

ASU continues its road swing at North Texas on Saturday. They face the Mean Green at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
