JONESBORO, Ark. (1/27/12) – The Arkansas State men's and women's track and field teams collected four first-place finishes after the first day of competition at the ASU Invitational indoor track meet at the Convocation Center.

Women's senior high jumper Lakeitha Minter, junior women's weight thrower Julia Agawu, men's sophomore weight thrower Richard Chavez and the women's distance medley relay team all finished first in their events on Friday.

Minter won the women's high jump with a leap of 5-04.50, while Agawu notched a victory in the women's weight throw competition with a throw of 58-08.00. ASU finished 1-2 in the men's weight throw competition. Chavez took home first place with a throw of 57-07.00, while Chris Nicasio finished second with a throw of 55-05.75.

Kristina Aubert, Kelsey Bean, Chelsea Weaver and Samantha Salinas won the women's distance medley relay race with a time of 12.28.88, besting second place Arkansas-Little Rock by over a minute.

Savannah Hutchinson finished fifth in the women's pentathlon event, while Ethan Sandusky finished third in the men's pole vault with a jump of 16-00.75. Solomn Williams finished fifth in the men's long jump with a leap of 22-11.00.

ASU Sophomore William Oliver leads the men's heptathlon after four events with 3,051 points. Thomas Ligon is third place with 2,868 points and Ethan Turpen is fourth with 2,844 points.

The meet will resume on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon. Field and running events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the finals of the running events set to start at 2 p.m.
