Slijepcevic Named to All-SBC Tennis Second Team

JONESBORO, Ark. (4/17/13) – Arkansas State sophomore Tamara Slijepcevic was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Tennis Second Team at the championship banquet Wednesday night on the campus of Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Novi Sad, Serbia native finished the season with an 11-4 record and ended the campaign on a three-match winning streak.  Slijepcevic entered the season on a nine-match winning streak and extended it to 12 before falling in her fourth match of the year against FAU.

“I'm really proud of Tamara and she's done a great job this year,” ASU tennis coach Marina Engelbrecht said.  “Playing No. 1 is not easy and I really appreciate her competitive spirit.  She loves pressure and can perform when things are close.  I love that about her.”

Slijepcevic played all 15 matches in No. 1 singles position for A-State this season and posted impressive wins over Troy's Karoline Grymel (13-9), Northwestern State's Polina Konop (14-4), and Middle Tennessee State's Irina Constantinide (10-8).

The Arkansas State (5-10) tennis team earned the 11th seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Tournament.  The Red Wolves will take on the No. 6 seed Middle Tennessee State at Red Lerille's in Lafayette, La.  First serve is set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
