@stAteVolleyball Places Four on AVCA All-Region Team; May and Rehr Claim Individual Honors

JONESBORO, Ark. (12/8/15) – The Arkansas State volleyball team placed four players on the American Volleyball Coaches Association Southwest All-Region Team, while Carlisa May was named the region's Freshman of the Year and head coach David Rehr earned the region's Coach of the Year the AVCA announced Tuesday.

Markie Schaedig earned All-Region honors for the second consecutive season, while Mallory Warrington and May were first-time selections for the team.  Darby Graff was recognized as an Honorable Mention All-Region selection.  The four All-Region picks give Arkansas State a total of eight in school history.  May, Schaedig, and Warrington are now up for AVCA All-American consideration.

The Southwest Region Freshman of the Year honor for May is the first by an A-State player in school history and she was the only freshman to earn a spot on the Southwest All-Region team.  The Lee's Summit, Mo., native was the team leader in kills with 365 (3.58 per set) and was second with a .300 hitting percentage.  She won the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year award and was named the league's Freshman of the Week seven times throughout the course of the season.

Rehr is the first coach from Arkansas State to win a Region Coach of the Year honor in school history.  He led the team to a 28-2 record and the Red Wolves' first NCAA Tournament berth since 1999.  The .933 winning percentage is the second best in school history and he was named the SBC Coach of the Year.  The team earned its first ever AVCA Top-25 ranking under Rehr's leadership this season and had the nation's longest winning streak of 24 matches entering the NCAA Tournament.

Schaedig claimed her second All-Region honor in as many seasons after leading the team with 537 digs (5.42 per set).  The junior libero from Little Rock, Ark., was named the SBC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year for the second season in a row and claimed five Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week awards from the conference during the season.  Last season, she was the first player in school history to be named an AVCA All-American when she was named Honorable Mention.  She has 1,544 career digs, which is fourth most in school history.

A native of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Warrington enjoyed another fantastic campaign in 2015 as she handed out 1,214 assists (11.45 per set) to pick up All-Region honors.  The junior was named the Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Year and also picked up four Setter of the Week awards from the league.  She led the team in double-doubles with 15 and has 2,924 assists in her career, which ranks as sixth most in school history.

Graff, a native of Hallsville, Texas, enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Red Wolves after transferring into the program during the offseason.  The redshirt junior led the team and SBC with a .355 hitting percentage and earned second-team All-SBC honors for her efforts.  She was third on the team with 309 kills (3.03 per set) and second with 71 blocks.  The All-Region Honorable Mention accolade is the first AVCA award in her career.

The Red Wolves' season came to a close in the NCAA Tournament with a loss to Michigan State in the first round Dec. 4.  For the latest on the A-State volleyball team fans can follow the squad on Twitter (@stAteVolleyball) and Instagram (astatevolleyball).
