@stAteVolleyball's May Named to PrepVolleyball All-Freshman Team

JONESBORO, Ark. (12/29/15) – Arkansas State's Carlisa May has added another honor to her fantastic 2015 campaign after being named to the PrepVolleyball.com All-Freshman team as an honorable mention selection as announced by the online publication Tuesday.

May, a native of Lee's Summit, Mo., has already won numerous awards for her excellent 2015 season including becoming only the second player in A-State history to earn American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American honors with an honorable mention selection on Dec. 16.  Additionally, she was named the AVCA Southwest Region Freshman of the Year and was the only freshman on the Southwest All-Region squad.  The All-Freshman recognition is the first time in A-State history a player has earned that honor from PrepVolleyball.

A true freshman outside hitter, May led the team with 365 kills (3.58 per set) on a .300 hitting percentage, which was second best on the squad.  The 3.58 kills per set mark was tied for third highest in the conference, while the hitting percentage was sixth best as she helped lead the team to a 28-2 record and an undefeated 16-0 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.  The Red Wolves qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in school history after winning their first SBC Tournament since the 1999 campaign.

Moreover, May picked up seven Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Week awards, including six in a row from weeks 3-8 in the season, and also took home the league's Freshman of the Year award.  She was a first-team All-SBC honoree and won the SBC Tournament MVP award after helping Arkansas State to a 3-0 record in the tournament.
