FORT MYERS, Fla. (1/17/16) – The Arkansas State women's tennis teamed earned three victories on the second day of competition at the FGCU Spring Invite on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Shelby King, sophomore Sabina Jeresic and junior Julie Gauguery all earned in their respective draws on the day. King, who competed in the tournament's top draw, defeated Northwestern State's Iryna Varadanian 6-2, 6-1, but dropped her next match to Carolin Drescher (Southern Miss) 3-6, 6-4, 10-6).
Jeresic began the day with an impressive straight set 6-0, 6-0 win over Alzbeta Veverkova (Northwestern State). The Croatian native is the only player in the tournament not to drop a set in a match thus far. She concluded her day with a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Tjasa Jerse (Southern Miss).
Gauguery, who played just one match on the day, downed Breana Stampfli (FGCU) 6-3, 6-7, 10-5, in the consolation bracket of the 'A' draw.
In other action Victoria Pisani lost to Llijana Ivic (Northwestern State) 6-3, 6-3, while Sofia Krsmanovic lost to Marta Ruszczynska (Southern Miss) 6-4, 7-5. Chiara Stefanov also lost her only match of the day to Alex Kitchen (Southern Miss) 6-0, 6-1.
The Tournament will conclude Monday morning with final round action.
