ARLINGTON, Texas (1/30/16) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team moved up from fourth to second place Saturday with a two-day total pinfall of 10,423 and also registered a 4-0 record during the second day of the Prairie View A&M Invitational being held at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas.

A-State (55-19) pulled out a tough 891-876 victory over tournament host No. 21 Prairie View A&M in its first match of the day before a 1,061-998 win over No. 19 Tulane.  Stephanie Mims led the team with a 225 against Prairie View, while Jordan Richard registered a 247 and Jadee Scott-Jones a 227 to lead the squad against the Green Wave.

Arkansas State bowled an impressive 1,133 in its third match of the day to top No. 3 Vanderbilt's 1,028 for its third straight win of the day with Richard (246), Mims (243), and Brooke Wood (234) posting impressive scores. The team picked up 1,067 pins in a bye match with Wood bowling a 243 to lead the team. A-State bowled its top score of the day in match five in a 1,163-1,062 win over No. 4 Sam Houston State with all five bowlers posting scores over 200 with a 265 from Mims leading the way.

“We have to find a way to start strong against Stephen F. Austin in our first match tomorrow because we came out slow again today,” A-State head women's bowling coach Justin Kostick said. “However, I was really happy with how we played the last four and we cut into the lead tremendously, but we have to play well against SFA tomorrow to ensure we are in the top four for bracket play.”

The Red Wolves' total pinfall of 10,423 only trails Stephen F. Austin's 10,515. Vanderbilt is in third with 10,293 pins, while Nebraska (10,268) and Maryland Eastern Shore (10,213) round out the top five. Vandy has the best record in the field at 9-1 with SFA right behind at 8-1. A-State currently has a 7-2 record for the event.

Richard leads the individual standings with 1,161 pins (232.20 average) just ahead of Vanderbilt's Robyn Renslow, who has a total pinfall of 1,160. Mims is currently in the top five with 1,137 pins (227.40 average), while Wood is at eighth overall with 1,067 pins (213.40 average).

The Red Wolves will take on Stephen F. Austin in its final traditional game Sunday at 8:25 a.m. with two rounds of best-of-seven Baker play to follow.
