NEW ORLEANS, La. (2/10/16) – Record-breaking performances by Arkansas State University track and field student-athletes Kristina Knott and Erin Farmer earned the pair Sun Belt Conference weekly honors, the league office announced Wednesday.
Knott, the Sun Belt Conference Female Track Student-Athlete of the Week, tied the SBC and A-State record in the 60-meter dash Sunday at the Jaguar Invitational. Knott, who earns the weekly honor for the second-straight week and third time this indoor season, clocked a 7.28 to tie the record set by Sharika Nelvis at the 2014 SBC Indoor Championships. The time ranks her sixth nationally and is one of three marks (60m, 200m, long jump) leading the Sun Belt Conference performance list.
Farmer, the Sun Belt Conference Female Field Student-Athlete of the Week, broke the school record in the shot put for the second time this season. Saturday at the Don DeNoon Invitational (SIU), Farmer posted a throw of 15.78m (51-09.25) to win the event and move ahead of teammate Calea Carr for the school record. The marks puts her at the top of the Sun Belt rankings and 37th nationally. Farmer, now a two-time SBC Female Field Athlete of the Week this year, also finished third in the weight throw with a launch of 18.88m (61-11.50), a mark that moves her to the top of the Sun Belt rankings.
A-State is scheduled to compete at the Samford Invitational and Multis next weekend (Fri-Sat.) with the Sun Belt Conference meet on Feb. 23-24 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
