LAFAYETTE, La. (3/25/16) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team opened Sun Belt Conference play with a 4-0 loss to UT Arlington at the Ragin' Cajuns Tennis Complex on the Louisiana-Lafayette campus Friday morning.

Victoria Pisani and Sofia Krsmanovic captured the only the Red Wolves' victory of the morning with a 7-5 win over Jessica Birowksi and Astrid Gehre in the No. 2 match.

In other doubles' competition, Julie Gagurey and Victoria Roberts dropped a tightly contested match to Elizabeth Thoms and Angeles de los Rios 7-5, while Chiara Stefanov and Sabina Jeresic fell to Agustina Serio and Valeria Lopez 6-3 in the other match.

“This was the best doubles' that we have played all year,” A-State head coach Kel Lange said. “The best thing about it was not necessarily how we played but the fact we did not shrink from the moment. We are starting to mature as a team.”

In the individual matches, Roberts dropped the No. 2 match to Rios 6-2, 6-2, while Stefanov lost to Birowski 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. The Mavericks clinched the victory behind a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win by Gehre over Krsmanovic on the No. 5 match.

In the unfinished matches, Gauguery dropped her opening set to Thoms 6-3, but was 4-1 in the second set, while Jeresic bounced back from a 6-3 setback to lead 4-3 in the second set. Pisani also dropped her initial set, but had a 4-2 lead when the match was called.
