LAFAYETTE, La. (3/26/16) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team lost to Texas State 4-1 Saturday morning at the Ragin' Cajun Tennis Complex on the University of Louisiana-Lafayette campus.
Junior Julie Gauguery captured the Red Wolves' point with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Eva Dench in the No. 1 match. Gauguery rebounded after losing four straight points in the opening set to claim the final two sets by a wide margin to earn the point for her team.
Victoria Roberts had a strong showing in the No. 2 match, which included a 6-3 victory in the opening set. Sabina Jeresic also had an opening set victory in the No. 4 match, while Victoria Pisani responded from a loss in her first set to take set two 6-3 in the No. 6 match.
“We played some of the most competitive tennis we have played all year,” A-State head tennis coach Kel Lange said. “We took some points deep into the third sets and had our chances in every match today. We continue to improve and get better each and every time we play.”
In the doubles' point, Sofia Krsmanovic and Pisani played a competitive match and trailed 6-5 in the No. 2 match when the Bobcats' secured the doubles' point. In the No. 1 match, Gauguery and Roberts fell to Rubio and Perez 6-3, while Chiara Stefanov and Jeresic lost to Katy Collins and Ammaarah Tim 6-2.
A-State returns to action Friday, April 1 against Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, La.
