JONESBORO, Ark. (4/1/16) – Arkansas State senior guard Aundrea Gamble has been named to the Senior CLASS Award All-America Second-Team, the organization announced Friday morning.
Gamble is the second student-athlete in the Arkansas State history to be recognized by the organization after former A-State quarterback Ryan Aplin also earned All-America Second-Team accolades in 2012.
The award, chosen by a nationwide vote of Division I women's basketball coaches, national basketball media and fans, is given annual to senior student-athletes in NCAA Division I women's basketball who have notable achievements in classroom, community, character and competition.
Throughout her career, Gamble has been no stranger to excellence in the four areas recognized by the award. She has accounted for one of the highest GPAs on the team, including being named the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List for achieving as GPA of 3.5 or higher during the last school year.
The McKinney, Texas native has also volunteered her time to the United Way through several service projects in conjunction with the women's basketball team. She also worked several community events including handing out water at local 5K races and volunteered her time during the holiday season at the “Winter Wonderland” Christmas exhibit. Gamble regularly talks with fans after games and is considered a role model to many young girls around the women's basketball program.
On the court, Gamble is the first two-time All-American in Arkansas State women's basketball history and finished her career ranked fourth in program history with 1,932 points. She is also owns the record for most career free throws made with 443, and is tied for second with 479 assists in her collegiate career. She was one of six active players in the NCAA this past season with over 1,600 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists in her career. She also held elite company with UCONN's Breanna Stewart as the only two players in the nation to average over 18 points, four assists and shot over 50 percent per game this past season. Her arrival in Jonesboro also marked one of the most successful eras in school history, including three consecutive WNIT appearances and 73 wins in a three-year period.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Breanna Stewart of UConn was the Senior CLASS Award winner this season.
