SAN MARCOS, Texas (4/9/16) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team dropped a neutral site Sun Belt Conference tennis match to Louisiana-Lafayette by a score of 4-2 Saturday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on the campus of Texas State University.
Julie Gauguery and Sabina Jeresic each captured victories in singles competition to account for the Red Wolves' two points on the afternoon, while Sofia Krsmanovic and Victoria Pisani won a match in doubles' competition.
“This was the best match we have played all year,” A-State tennis coach Kel Lange said. “Everyone competed well and played hard today. I am proud of the effort the girls gave and I hope we can continue the positive momentum.”
Gauguery battled Kelly Drew in her singles' match and rebounded from an early 6-3 loss to the first set to take the match with a pair of 6-1, 6-3 victories in the final two sets to account for A-State's second point. Jeresic was impressive in her straight set 6-4, 6-2 victory over Abby Johnson in the No. 4 match. Gauguery owns a team best six victories in singles' competition, while Jeresic has won two matches.
In the doubles' point, Pisani and Krsmanovic won their third doubles' match of the season with a 7-5 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns Alexandra Way and Johnson. The pair now lead the team in doubles' victories on the year.
In other doubles' competition Gauguery and Victoria Roberts lost to Melissa Burckhartt and Drew 6-3, while Chiara Stefanov and Jeresic lost to Elena Sava and Dana Brankovic 7-5.
In the remaining singles' matches, Roberts lost to Sava 6-3, 6-3, while Stefeanov fell to Burckhartt 6-2, 6-0. Krsmanovic dropped the No. 5 match to Juliette Clement 6-3, 6-2 and Pisani did not finish her match with way after losing the first set 6-2.
The team returns to action when it will participate in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament April 21-24 in New Orleans, La.
