MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. (4/24/16) – The Arkansas State men's golf team began play Sunday at the Sun Belt Conference Championship, shooting a first-round 289 at the Raven Golf Club to put it in fourth place among 11 teams.
The Red Wolves had three players end the day among the top 20 individual leaders and are only one stroke out of second place, currently occupied by both Texas State and Troy. Georgia State is in first place after recording a 282.
Sophomore Tanner Napier shot a 2-under-par 69 to lead A-State. He is tied for fifth place with Archer Price of Georgia Southern and within four strokes of Georgia State's J.J. Grey, who is leading the 55-player field.
Oswin Schlenkrich shot a 72 and is tied for 14th place after the tournament's initial round. Fellow senior Seth Garner is tied for 17th place with a 73, while sophomore Andrew Huseman is tied for 32nd with a 75 and freshman Joel Wendin tied for 50th with a 79.
The Sun Belt Conference Championship continues tomorrow with the second round.
