JONESBORO, Ark. (4/28/16) – Arkansas State thrower Itamar Levi was named the Sun Belt Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for his record-breaking performance last weekend, the league office announced Thursday.
Levi broke the 25-year old school record in the discus throw with a launch of 57.28m (187-11) to finish 11th at the UC San Diego Triton Invite. The previous record was set in 1991 (57.25m/187-10) and the throw beat Levi's previous personal best (54.60m/179-02) by over eight feet. The throw ranks second in the Sun Belt, 12th in the NCAA West Region and 23rd nationally. He also competed in shot put at the Triton Invite, finishing first with a throw of 18.20m (59-8.50).
The Red Wolves are scheduled to compete at the Memphis Invitational on Saturday in their final competition ahead of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships (May 13-15).
