CONWAY, Ark. (9/24/16) – Arkansas State tennis junior Sabina Jeresic captured a tournament title, while sophomore Shelby King and senior Julie Gauguery each advanced to the finals of their flights as the Red Wolves concluded play the UCA Fall Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Jeresic took home a tournament in her flight with a 6-4, 4-6 (10-8) victory over Missouri State Abbey Belote and beat Hannah Rickard of Murray State with a straight set 6-2, 6-0 straight set win.

Freshman Shannon O'Brien won the consolation bracket of her flight with a 6-2, 2-6 (10-6) win over Alexia Meyer of Missouri State. She also posted a win earlier in the day a straight set victory over Murray State's Sara Bjork.

“We had a very successful weekend,” A-State tennis coach Kel Lange said. “Our depth is much improved and we continue to get better with our doubles pairings each match.”

In other action Gauguery advanced to the finals of the tournament's top flight, but then lost Jui Yun Change by score of 6-4, 6-3 to take home the runner-up prize. King also advanced to the finals of her consolation bracket but lost to Missouri State's Phoebe Boeschen 6-2, 5-7 (10-6).

In the doubles bracket the pairing of King and Jeresic lost in the semifinal of the top doubles flight, while Allison Quammen and Victoria Pisani were forced to withdraw from their doubles flight due to injury.

The tennis team will return to the courts Oct. 7-9 when they travel to Fort Myers, Fla., to participate in the FGCU Fall Classic.
