A-State Tennis Set to Play in ITA Regional

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (10/12/16) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team will take to the road this weekend to participate in the ITA Central Regional Tournament hosted by the University of Minnesota at the Baseline Tennis Center. The tournament is set to run from Oct. 13-17.

Competing in the event for the Red Wolves will be senior Julie Gauguery, sophomore Victoria Roberts and freshmen Allison Quammen and Shannon O'Brien with each student-athlete competing in both singles and doubles events. Gauguery and O'Brien comprise one doubles team with Quammen and Roberts making up the other.

Gauguery and Roberts each competed in the ITA Regionals in 2015, while O'Brien and Quammen will be making their first appearances in the event. For Gauguery, she will be competing in the tournament for the third time in her career where she has three singles' victories and has had success in the doubles' bracket in each of her last two trips.

The senior from France will open singles competition Thursday afternoon at 4:30 against Oklahoma State's Sofia Blanco. Roberts will start play in the round of 128 on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. against Katarina Stresnakova (Oklahoma State). Quammen will take on Elise Van Heuvelen (Iowa) at 8 a.m. Thursday morning, with O'Brien rounding out the day with a match against Mehvish Safdar (Minnesota) at 6:30 in the evening.

The doubles bracket will start Friday morning with Quammen and Roberts set to play Drake's Summer L. Brills/Joely Lomas at 10 a.m., followed by Gauguery and O'Brien taking on Creighton's Ashley Ishimura and Darby Rosette at 11.

The winners of the 12 regional championships advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on November 3-6. The event will be held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
