HOUSTON, Texas (11/4/16) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team began competition at the Track Kat Klash Friday at Emerald Lanes in Houston, Texas, and ended the day with a 4-2 record along with being second in total pinfall.
A-State (11-6) began the day with a 920-827 win over Youngstown State and followed with a 907-794 triumph versus Southern. The Red Wolves kept rolling a pair of wins over Bethune-Cookman (1,077-950) and Lincoln Memorial (1,074-843) to improve to 4-0. However, the team suffered a 1,119-952 loss to No. 1 Nebraska before a 10-pin loss (1,014-1,004) to No. 2 Stephen F. Austin.
"We got to find a way to close out matches tomorrow at the end," A-State head women's bowling coach Justin Kostick said. "I think we lost some energy in our final couple of matches because of the long day. We need to be better tomorrow to get in position to win the event."
Arkansas State's total pinfall on the day was 5,934 to place them 13 pins ahead of the third place team, Central Missouri. Nebraska topped the leaderboard with 6,134 pins, while Stephen F. Austin (5,885) and host Sam Houston State (5,883) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
The event continues Saturday, Nov. 5 with five traditional team matches getting underway at 10:30 a.m. The combined results from today and tomorrow will determine the seeding for Sunday's bracket-play tournament, which features each team playing three rounds of best-of-seven Baker matches, beginning at 8:20 a.m.
