HOUSTON, Texas (11/5/16) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team registered a 5-0 record and finished fourth in total pinfall Saturday at the second day of the Track Kat Klash being played at Emerald Lanes in Houston, Texas.
A-State (16-6) began the day with an impressive 982-894 win over No. 1 Nebraska with Jordan Richard (231) and Brooke Wood (220) leading the team. The Red Wolves followed with a 1,012-870 victory versus No. 12 Delaware State that saw Jadee Scott-Jones bowl a 256 and Haley Richard roll a 221 to lead the squad. The third match of the day saw A-State win a tight 890-879 decision over No. 7 Central Missouri with Samantha Wallace registering a 189 to pace the team.
Arkansas State racked up another win over Grambling (1,043-771) behind Jordan Richard's 244 and Haley Richard's 235 scores. The squad topped No. 24 Jackson State 1,012-866 in its final match of the day with a 232 by Jordan Richard representing the top score.
A-State accumulated a total pinfall of 10,873 in the first two days to earn the fourth seed in Sunday's bracket play. The Red Wolves were just 12 pins behind third-seeded Vanderbilt (10,885) and 17 pins behind the second seed and host school Sam Houston State. Nebraska earned the top seed with 10,959 total pins. Arkansas State is 9-2 over the first two days of the competition.
“I'm happy we were fourth so we have a chance to win the championship tomorrow,” A-State head women's bowling coach Justin Kostick said. “The top four teams were all really close in pinfall so it should be exciting tomorrow in the bracket. We went 5-0 on the day, which was the most important thing.”
Jordan Richard finished sixth in the individual standings with 1,072 pins (214.40 per game), while Scott-Jones was 13th with a total pinfall of 1,023 (204.60 per game). Haley Richard was also in the top-20 with a total pinfall of 997 (199.40 per game) that ranked 18th.
Sunday's bracket-play tournament, which features each team playing three rounds of best-of-seven Baker matches, begins at 8:20 a.m. A-State faces Vanderbilt in the first round tomorrow.
