JONESBORO, Ark. (11/14/16) – Kenzie Fields and Mallory Warrington of the Arkansas State volleyball team were named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday.
A native of Bartlett, Tenn., Fields led the team with 15 kills on a solid .275 hitting percentage in A-State's 3-1 win over Little Rock Friday, Nov. 11. She was just one dig shy of a double-double with nine and also added a team-high four blocks. The outside hitter also posted two service aces to give her 27 for the year, the most on the team.
The Freshman of the Week award for Fields is her second of the year after winning one earlier this season after week two. She is second on the team with 262 kills and fourth with 210 digs. The redshirt freshman has also added 34 blocks and 19 assists in what has been a solid opening campaign.
Warrington, a native of Lake St. Louis, Mo., ends the season with 10 of the league's 12 Setter of the Week honors. She posted 50 assists in the win over the Trojans for a 12.50 per set average and also had a career-high 23 digs to register her team-best 14th double-double of the year. The award for Warrington is her 16th career weekly award, with 15 of them being Setter of the Week accolades.
The senior setter has now dished out 1,253 assists this year, which is the ninth most in school history for a single season and the third most in the country this year. Warrington's 11.93 per set average is second in the nation.
Arkansas State, the No. 1 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, will take on No. 8 Georgia State at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. All matches of the SBC Tournament will be broadcast on ESPN3.
