BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (1/21/17) – The Arkansas State University track and field program sent student-athletes to the Gladstein Invite on the campus of Indiana University and left with six first place marks and 13 top-three finishes.
“We looked a little better this week,” head coach Jim Patchell said. “We had a solid week of practice and knocked some of the rust off to look better, but we still have to improve in some areas. We are definitely looking forward to another home meet next weekend.”
Coming off two-straight weeks of setting the school record in the shot put, Erin Farmer improved her mark once again. She finished first in the shot put event with a mark of 17.80m (58-04.75) bettering her best from last week of 17.33m (56-10.25).
Reigning Sun Belt Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week took home first place in both the 60m and 200m dash. Bacon, ranked fourth in the world with a time of 6.62 seconds in the 60-meter dash, won the event with a time of 6.68 seconds. He also took top honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.60 seconds.
A shot put of 18.14m (59-06.25) earned Itamar Levi a first place finish among collegiate competitors. His throw ranks as the second-best in program history. Viktoriia Sadokhina won the triple jump competition with a mark of 12.29m (40-04.00).
The Red Wolves took first and second in the men's high jump. Tiaan Steenkamp took first place with a clearance of 2.14m (7-00.25) while Chase Riley was second clearing 2.10m (6-10.75). In the women's high jump, Darragh May finished second at 1.72m (5-05.75).
Jamil Peeples took home third place in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 7.97 seconds, tied for the second-best time in school history. Cristian Ravar Ladislau posted a weight throw of 19.71m (64-08.00) to place second and the throw ranks as third-best in program history. Chanell O'Connor placed second in the 200-meter dash, clocking a 25.12. That time ranks as the eighth-fastest in program history in the 200-meter dash.
