A-State Bowlers Fourth at SFA Stormin’ Ladyjack Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas (2/10/17) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team started strong and ended day one of the Stephen F. Austin Stormin' Ladyjack Invitational at Copperfield Lanes in Houston, Texas in fourth place with a total pinfall of 5,065.

The second-ranked Red Wolves (48-20) began the day with a 1,042-1,002 victory over No. 17 Long Island University-Brooklyn and followed with a 1,068-931 win over Maryville. A-State kept things rolling with a 1,038-968 triumph over No. 10 Sacred Heart, but stumbled in its final two matches of the day with losses to No. 21 UAB (1,020-989) and No. 3 McKendree (1,012-928).

“We started out really well, but definitely didn't perform as good as we needed to in the final two matches of the day,” A-State head women's bowling coach Justin Kostick said. “It is frustrating to play so well and then not so well in the same day, but hopefully tomorrow we can be consistent throughout the whole day and bowl well.”

McKendree leads the field with a total pinfall of 5,275, while Nebraska is second with 5,110 total pins. Wisconsin-Whitewater (5,078) is just ahead of the Red Wolves' 5,065, while the host team, Stephen F. Austin, rounds out the top five with a 5,054.

Saturday's action will consist of five traditional team matches and will get started at 9:25 a.m.
