LEXINGTON, Ky. (2/17/17) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team fell to Western Kentucky 5-2 in Lexington, Ky., on Friday afternoon.
Julie Gauguery won her second straight singles' match of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Andreanna Christopoulou in the No. 1 match, while Victoria Pisiani earned a thrilling 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win in the No. 4 match to account for both of A-State's points on the afternoon.
In other singles' matches, Sabina Jeresic lost to Elpida Malamou 6-0, 6-4, while Shannon O'Brien dropped a 7-5, 6-1 contest to Cindy Oest. Tori Roberts was defeated by Natalia De Ugarte 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 match, while Lisa Friess defeated Allison Quammen 7-6, 6-0 in the final match of the day.
The Hilltoppers also captured the doubles' points by earning victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Oest and De Ugarte defeated A-State's Pisani and Jersic 6-2 in the No. 2 match, while Roberts and Quammen were defeated by Minica Malinen and Elpida Malamou 6-2 as well. The No. 1 match that included the Red Wolves'Gauguery and O'Brien was left unfinished after the point was decided.
The Red Wolves will continue their Kentucky road swing with a trip to Richmond, Ky., to take on Eastern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
