OPELIKA, Ala. (3/5/17) – The Arkansas State men's golf team shot a 287 Sunday at the Tiger Invitational, completing the two-day tournament's first round tied for fourth place among 19 teams.
Second-round play also began today, but was suspended due to darkness with A-State's five players having completed somewhere between the first 6-9 holes at the Grand National Lakes Course. The Red Wolves ended the day in fifth place through holes 24-27 of the 54-hole tourney.
The Red Wolves were led by freshman Zan Luka Stirn, who fired a 6-under 66 that is the lowest single-round score by an Arkansas State player this season. The scored put him in second place, and he now stands tied for third at 7-under overall.
A-State currently trails fourth-place Louisville by two strokes and is within five of Missouri and UNC Wilmington, which are tied for second. Tournament-host Auburn sits atop the standings with a combined nine-under score.
Also competing for the Red Wolves, Andrew Huseman shot a first-round 73 to place him tied for 35th. Trent Jones and Tanner Napier both finished the opening 18 holes tied for 46th place after posting a 74, while Joel Wendin was tied for 90th with an 80.
Huseman has improved his current standing to tied for 31st, and Wendin has climbed into a tie for 82nd. Jones and Napier remained tied, but have fallen to 58th place through 24-27 holes played.
The Tiger Invitational's second round will resume Monday at 7:45 a.m. with the final round beginning at approximately 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
