JONESBORO, Ark. (3/29/17) – Arkansas State freshman Zan Luka Stirn has earned his second consecutive Sun Belt Conference Men's Golfer of the Week award, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Stirn's most recent honor comes after he collected his first career individual championship, winning the Bob Sitton Invitational while leading Arkansas State to the tournament's team title as well. Coming off a runner-up finish in the Red Wolves' prior tournament appearance, Stirn matched his career-best 54-hole score with a 206 that featured single-round scores of 69, 68 and 69 to finish atop the 120-player field.
His second-round 68 tied the second lowest score of his career. Stirn averaged 68.67 strokes per round on his way to a career-best finish. He is listed as the No. 149 NCAA Division I player in the nation and tabbed No. 24 among all freshmen in GolfStat's latest national rankings.
The Kranj, Slovenia, native helped lead A-State to victories over 19 teams at the Bob Sitton Invite, including programs such as Long Beach State, TCU, Oral Roberts, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky and Sun Belt schools UT Arlington and Texas State.
Arkansas State is set to host the Red Wolves Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday, April 3-4, at the RidgePointe Country Club in Jonesboro.
