JONESBORO, Ark. (1/11/18) – The 2018 version of the Mid-Winter Invitational, the A-State women’s bowling program’s home tournament, is set to take place Jan. 12-14 at Hijinx Family Entertainment Center in Jonesboro and admission is free.
This season’s field includes 20 teams with 13 teams ranked in the latest version of the National Tenpin Coaches Association poll. Ranked squads competing at the event along with the third-ranked Red Wolves include No. 1 Nebraska, No. 2 McKendree, No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Sam Houston State, No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, No. 9 Tulane, No. 11 Central Missouri, No. 14 UAB, No. 19 Louisiana Tech, No. 20 Maryville, No. 22 Alabama State, and No. 23 Lincoln Memorial. Valparaiso, Alabama A&M, Drury, Grambling, Jackson State, Lincoln University (Mo.), and Texas Southern round out the field.
Friday’s action gets underway at 11:20 a.m. with five, five-game Baker matches, while Saturday will feature five traditional team games starting at 9:40 a.m. Combined results from the first two days will determine the seeding of Sunday’s bracket round, where each team will play three best-of-seven Baker matches beginning at 8:30 a.m.
A-State enters the weekend with a 27-12 record after finishing 9-4 in all three competitions in the fall. The squad finished fifth at the Brunswick Bearcat Open, third at the Track Kat Klash, and won its most recent event, the Warhawk Classic. Jordan Richard has claimed two of the team’s three All-Tournament selections this season, while Leah Glazer earned MVP honors at the Kat Klash to represent the team’s other award.
The Red Wolves finished fifth at last season’s Mid-Winter Invitational, while Nebraska defeated McKendree 4-2 for the title. Jordan Richard won the MVP award last season, while Haley Richard was named to the All-Tournament team.
