IOWA CITY, Iowa (04/13/18) – The 61st ranked Arkansas State men’s golf team completed the first round of the Hawkeye Invitational in eighth place among 13 teams Friday at the Finkbine Golf Course.


A-State scored a first-round 297 to finish four strokes behind No. 60 Marquette and trail No. 36 Kansas by just five strokes. The Red Wolves were paced by two golfers among the top-30 individual leaders out of a field featuring 75 players.


Pacing the Red Wolves, senior Tanner Napier is tied for 12th place after carding an 18-hole total of 71, while sophomore Zan Luka Stirn ended the first day with a total of 74 to tie for 30th place.


Also competing for the Red Wolves, junior Joel Wendin tied for 37th place after the first 18 holes with a first-round 75. Junior Jakub Bares tied for 55th after posting a 77, while sophomore Matthew Cole completed the day in a tie for 63rd place with a 79.


The final two rounds of the Hawkeye Invitational will be played on Saturday.
