JONESBORO, Ark. (6/6/18) – A pair of incoming freshmen on the 2018-19 Arkansas State women’s golf team, Olivia Schmidt and Madison Smith were honored this week by The Oklahoman in Oklahoma City as members of the newspaper’s All-City Girls Golf Team as first-team selections.

Both Schmidt and Smith signed a National Letter of Intent earlier this year to play for the Red Wolves and recently completed their senior seasons at Bishop McGuinness Catholic and Southmoore high schools, respectively.

Oklahoma’s largest newspaper stated “Schmidt had already been known as one of Class 5A’s top golfers, having pushed for a title each season.  Despite rain washing out her final bid, the Arkansas State signee was still big throughout the spring.”

Schmidt helped lead her high school to a fifth-place finish last year in the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) Class 5A State Tournament, where she placed fourth as an individual during her junior season. The year prior, she finished runner-up at the state tournament.

The Oklahoman said of Smith, “In her lone high school season due to scoliosis, Smith made her presence known.  The Arkansas State signee finished third in Class 6A after improving four strokes in the final round.”

Among Smith’s other accomplishments, she won a Jordan Spieth American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) qualifier in 2017 and also earned overall champion of the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour (OJGT). Additionally, she claimed the OJGT Spring Muskogee individual title in 2017.
