JONESBORO (7/17/08) ? Over 110 women were in attendance for the Arkansas State football program's Second Annual Women's Football Clinic, held Thursday evening at ASU Stadium with the Red Wolves' coaching staff.
All proceeds from the event went to benefit the ASU Tickets for Kids program. The event began with a 5:30 p.m. dinner catered by Outback and introductions from ASU Head Football Coach Steve Roberts and his staff.
“We are very excited about the turnout for tonight's event,” said ASU Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions Gleen Hart. “The ladies had a great time, learned a lot about football and raised money for a great cause. We are very grateful for their support of Arkansas State football and we look forward to next year's event being even bigger and better. It was truly a night to remember.”
Following dinner, the women broke into groups to meet with position coaches to watch video footage and learn basic rules and strategies of football. Following the meetings, the clinic participants went on a tour of the football complex before hitting the field at ASU Stadium.
The women went through different stations on the field to practice passing, receiving, kicking, tackling and blocking drills. Prizes such as digital photo frames, gift certificates from area business and tickets and apparel from ASU Athletics were given to many of the attendees. Each participant also received a Red Wolves seat cushion.
The ASU football team kicks off its 2008 season at Texas A&M on Aug. 30 and will host Texas Southern in its home opener on Sept. 6.
