EL PASO, Texas (9/11/09) - The Arkansas State women's soccer team (3-3) fell to Weber State 2-0 Friday night at the Texas-El Paso Tournament after waiting over an hour to play due to lightning.
Both teams took nine shots on goal, with Weber State finding the back of the net twice in the second half.
"I was really proud of our girls and the performance and effort they put into the game," said ASU head coach Derek Pittman. "Weber State is a good team with several very good players, and I felt like they just took advantage of a couple of opportunities they got and scored their two goals for the win."
Ashley McMurtry led the Red Wolves taking three shots, followed by Anna Kaloghirou with two. Stasha Siers, Miranda Wiley, Karly Kuranda, Tory Pitts, Lyndsey Patterson and Tracy Powell each took one shot on the night.
The Weber State win marks the first contest between the two teams and improves WSU to an undefeated 4-0 record on the year.
"It was really a good test for us tonight to play again such a good team, because it's only going to make us better as we get into conference play in two weeks," added Pittman.
Arkansas State will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 13 against Sam Houston State at 10:00 a.m. in El Paso.
