EL PASO, Texas (2/7/10) - The Arkansas State women's tennis team (1-2) fell to Texas-El Paso (3-4) 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the El Paso Tennis Club in El Paso, Texas.
The Red Wolves lone point in the match came in doubles competition with Elne' Barnard and Rone' van Wyk winning over Carolina DeLuca and Marina DeLuca 8-4 at the No. 1 spot, and Jenny Herring and Menna Kamal topping Austin Lavallii and Veronika Makashov 8-4 at the No. 3 spot.
Maria Alemán and Andreea Georgescu fell at No. 2 to UTEP's Ximena Fuentes and Alexandra Glebova 8-2.
Arkansas State struggled in singles action Sunday. Barnard lost at the No. 1 spot to Dariya Abdrakhmanova 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, while Herring dropped a match at No. 2 to Carolina DeLuca 5-7, 6-0, 6-1. van Wyk lost at No. 3 to Marina DeLuca 7-5, 6-3, and Kamal fell at No. 4 to Glebova 6-2, 6-4. Alemán dropped a 6-2, 7-5 decision at No. 5 to Fuentes, and Georgescu fell 6-1, 6-3 to Makashov at No. 6.
The Red Wolves will be back in action Friday, Feb. 12 when they take on Winthrop in Birmingham, Ala. at 11:00 a.m.
