Red Wolves Tennis Announces 2010-11 Schedule

JONESBORO, Ark. (9/7/10) - The Arkansas State women's tennis team announced its 2010-11 schedule Tuesday, featuring a preseason tournament and seven contests in Jonesboro.

"We are excited about hosting a fall tournament this year during the weekend of Homecoming," said ASU head coach Marcia Williams.  "Hopefully, fans will come out to the tournament and then want to come back out and watch our spring matches.  In the spring, we are happy to have a few more home matches than last year, and we have a great group of hard-working girls that are anxious to get started."

The Red Wolves will participate in five fall tournaments, including the Memphis Invitational in Memphis, Tenn., the Red Wolves Invitational hosted by ASU, the ULM Invitational in Monroe, La., the Regional Tournament in Fayetteville, Ark. and the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss.  ASU's home tournament will be held Oct. 1-3 at Allen Park.

Arkansas State will open the regular season at Jonesboro Country Club when they face Central Arkansas in a 9:00 a.m. matchup.

Following the season opener, the Red Wolves will begin a six-match road swing starting with matchups against Sun Belt Conference foes Florida International Feb. 12 and Florida Atlantic Feb. 13.  The squad will then travel to Lafayette, La. to face Louisiana-Lafayette Feb. 19 before heading to Beaumont, Texas to take on Lamar Feb. 20.  A-State will make its way back to Louisiana to meet Northwestern State in Natchitoches Feb. 25 and McNeese State in Lake Charles Feb. 27.

The Red Wolves return to Jonesboro March 2 when they host Murray State at Allen Park in a 2:30 p.m. contest. 

Arkansas State will travel to Martin, Tenn. March 5 to face Tennessee-Martin, before returning to Jonesboro for matchups with Southern Illinois-Carbondale March 12 and St. Louis March 15, also at Allen Park.

ASU will make the trip to Murfreesboro, Tenn. March 18-19 to face Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky, and the Red Wolves will make their last home stand with three consecutive matches in Jonesboro.  Troy will travel to meet A-State April 1, while Alabama-Birmingham will make the trip to Jonesboro the following day.  ULM is set to take on ASU April 9 at Allen Park at 11:00 a.m.

The Red Wolves will wrap up their regular season on the road at UALR April 16 at 2:00 p.m., and the Sun Belt Conference Tournament is set for April 20-23 in Mobile, Ala.
