JONESBORO, Ark. (9/7/10) - Arkansas State sophomore bowler Rachael Gittings (Glen Allen, Va.) was selected to the Brunswick All-Academic third team, while senior Lauren Pulver (Albany, N.Y.) was named an All-Academic honoree.
Fifteen student-athletes earned first, second and third team honors, while 110 student-athletes from 29 schools were given academic recognition as selected by the National Tenpin Coaches Association. Selections were based upon performance and athletic accomplishment, and honorees had to achieve a minimum 3.4 grade point average during the recent academic year.
Gittings made an immediate impact for ASU last season, knocking down 8,455 total pins in 45 games to help the Red Wolves make their third consecutive NCAA Championship appearance. She posted a 187.88 average in her first year as a Red Wolf and earned all-tournament accolades at the Big Red and Shrewsbury Invitationals, where she finished fifth, and the UMES Hawks Classic, where she finished second. The Glen Allen, Va. native is majoring in early childhood education.
Pulver is a senior criminal justice major from Albany, N.Y. She transferred to ASU from Hudson Valley Community College in 2008.
The ASU squad will kick off the 2010 season when they travel to Springfield, Mo. for the Greater Ozark Invitational Oct. 29-31.
