JONESBORO, Ark. (6/17/2011) — Arkansas State head women's
basketball coach Brian Boyer will be a featured speaker next week when the
Arkansas High School Coaches Association holds its annual coaching clinic in
Fayetteville.
Boyer will address the clinic June 22, speaking to those in
attendance about ASU's approach to pressure defense. Last year, Arkansas State finished the season
at No. 4 nationally in three-point field goal percentage defense, holding
opponents to just 26 percent shooting from outside the arc. The Red
Wolves were also 28th nationally with a plus-3.94 turnover margin
and their 10.3 steals per game ranked 46th in the nation.
Arkansas State held its opponents to just 57.4 points-per-game on the season to
finish 54th nationally in total defense.
Boyer is entering his 13th season as the head coach at
Arkansas State, and became ASU's winningest basketball coach last season when
he notched his 197th career victory and moved to the top of the list
of all coaches in A-State men's or women's basketball history. He directed the Red Wolves to seven wins in
their last nine games to reach the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference
Tournament and close out the year with 199 career wins to his credit. He led ASU to 18 victories last season,
including nine in SBC action. With 105
SBC wins, Boyer is tied for fourth-place all-time in the league in career
victories.
