JONESBORO,
Ark. (4/19/12) - Arkansas State sophomore Sharika Nelvis' record-breaking
performance this past weekend at the Mississippi Open earned her Sun Belt
Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week Honors, announced the league office
on Thursday.
Nelvis
captured the 100 meter hurdle title with an Arkansas State University record
time of 13.36 while finishing second in the 100 meter dash at 11.45, also a Red
Wolves record.
Her time
in the 100 m dash is currently ranked seventh in the NCAA West Region rankings
and her 100m hurdles time is ranked ninth. This marks the third Performer of
the Week honor for Nelvis and the first during outdoor competition.
Nelvis
and the rest of the Red Wolves return to action at the Vanderbilt Invitational
on Friday.
