JONESBORO,
Ark. (4/19/12) - The Arkansas State track & field teams enter their home
meet after setting six Red Wolves team records so far during outdoor competition.
ASU will host the Red Wolves open on Saturday at the ASU Track & Field Facility.
Teams
from UALR, UCA, Harding and Southwest Christian will travel to Jonesboro to
compete against A-State.
Competition
begins at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer throw, women's javelin and women's long
jump. Running events begin at 10:30 a.m. with the 3,000-meter run and events
will continue on a rolling schedule finishing with the 4X400 meter relays
capping off the event.
ASU
enters the weekend led by sophomore sprinter Sharika Nelvis who is coming off
back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Athlete of the Week awards. Nelvis is
nationally ranked after setting A-State records in the 100m, 100m hurdles and
200m runs.
Richard
Chavez broke the ASU school record in the men's shot put with a throw of 60-5
3/4 already this season. ASU has also had record-breaking performances in by
Kristina Aubert in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:14.51 and the
3,000-meter steeple chase by Chelsea Weaver with a time of 11:17.
