JONESBORO, Ark. (5/11/12) - Sophomore William Oliver paced the field with an 11.09 second win, earning 841 points in the process during competition at the first day of the Sun Belt Conference Track & Field Championships, Friday.
Oliver picked up his second consecutive win in the decathlon long jump after leaping 7.01m (23'0") to earn 816 points. Louisiana-Lafayette's Sander Maes was second.
The first final of the day, the women's discus, junior Julia Agawu took home first-place honors for A-State with a toss of 51.55m (169'1").
Thomas Lignon of Arkansas State won the men's decathlon shot put earning 692 points.
The final event of the evening saw Arkansas State's Kristina Aubert claim the women's 10,000 meter run in a time of 35:47.13. Aubert's time was the fastest in the SBC this season.
Day two of the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. CT with the decathlon.
