JONESBORO, Ark. (7/17/12) – The Arkansas State
volleyball team announced its 2012 schedule on Tuesday, which features seven
home matches including one against the University of Memphis.
ASU will play in four non-conference tournaments and
will open the season Aug. 24-25 at the Rice University Invitational in Houston,
Texas. The tournament field includes the host team Rice, Brigham Young
University and Air Force.
The Red Wolves will open its 2012 home schedule Aug.
28 at 6 p.m. against Memphis at the Convocation Center. This will mark the
first time since 2009 that the two schools have faced off and it will be the
Tigers' first trip to Jonesboro since 2008.
"It's a challenging schedule, but we chose this route to
prepare us for Sun Belt Conference play," ASU Volleyball coach David Rehr
said. “Having Memphis as our Home opener Aug. 28 in the Convocation Center, is
a great way to introduce this year's team to our fans and supporters.”
A-State will return to tournament action Aug. 31-Sept.
1 at the Kansas University Invitational in Lawrence, Kan., where the field
includes Kansas, Sam Houston State, Nebraska Omaha and Tulsa. The Red Wolves
will travel to Lake Charles, La. Sept. 7-8 for the McNeese State Tournament
which includes McNeese State and Baylor. The squad will conclude its
non-conference tournament schedule Sept. 14-15 in Peoria, Ill., at the Bradley
University Tournament where the field includes Bradley, Northern Iowa and Long
Beach State.
ASU will begin Sun Belt Conference play Sept. 21 on
the road against Florida Atlantic, followed by a trip to Florida International
Sept. 23.
The Red Wolves will host North Texas Sept. 28 at 7
p.m. for its SBC home opener at the Convocation Center, followed by a 1 p.m.
home match against Louisiana-Monroe Sept. 30. ASU will travel to Cape
Girardeau, Mo., Oct. 2 for a non-conference match against Southeast Missouri
State before returning to Jonesboro to play Troy Oct. 5 and South Alabama Oct.
7 at the HPESS Facility.
ASU will begin a four-match road swing Oct. 12 with a
trip to Louisiana-Lafayette, followed by a match at Arkansas-Little Rock Oct.
16. A-State will then travel to Bowling Green, Ky., Oct. 19 to take on Western
Kentucky, followed by a trip to Murfreesboro, Tenn., Oct. 20 for a match
against Middle Tennessee.
The team will return to the Convocation Center Oct. 28
for a 2 p.m. match against Arkansas-Little Rock and will conclude its home
schedule Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. against Louisiana-Lafayette at the Convocation
Center.
The Red Wolves will travel to Columbia, Mo., Nov. 6
for a non-conference match against Missouri, followed by SBC road matches
against North Texas Nov. 9 and Louisiana-Monroe Nov. 11.
The Sun Belt Conference tournament will be in Bowling
Green, Ky., Nov. 15-17.
