ASU Volleyball Team Reports for Fall Camp

JONESBORO, Ark. (8/7/2012) — With its first practice scheduled for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and its season opener just under a month away, the Arkansas State volleyball team reported Tuesday for fall camp.

The Red Wolves held their first team meeting Tuesday and will go through a strength and conditioning session Wednesday morning before taking part in the first team organized practice at 10:30 a.m. in the Convocation Center. A-State will open its 2012 season at the Rice Invitational Aug. 24-25 and will host Memphis in their home opener Aug. 28.

“It has been very exciting seeing our kids reporting today,” said ASU head coach David Rehr. “We are ready to get to work in the gym and improve upon the advancements of the spring. My coaching staff and I looking forward to seeing the improvements that were made over the summer months and preparing for our first tournament in Texas at the end of the month.”

ASU returns 12 lettermen, including five starters and its libero. Senior Allison Kearney and junior Ashley Tipps return after garnering All-Sun Belt Conference second team selections last season, while senior Jasmine Terry returns after finishing second on the team in kills. The Red Wolves finished the 2011 campaign with a 20-11 overall record and a 12-4 record in the Sun Belt Conference. The team also won a share of the SBC West Division title for the third straight year and claimed a division title outright for the first time since 1998.

This year marks the 37th year of Red Wolves volleyball and A-State will have seven home matches, including five in the Convocation Center. A-State will open conference play Aug. 21 at Florida Atlantic and will host its SBC home opener Sept. 28 against North Texas.
