CollegeHoopsDaily November Players of the Month Release
JONESBORO,
Ark. (12/4/12) – Ed Townsel and Brandon Peterson of the Arkansas State
University men's basketball team have been recognized by CollegeHoopsDaily as Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Players of the
Month for their noteworthy performances in the opening month of the 2012-13
season.
The
online publication recognized five individuals from each NCAA Division I
conference, which includes the Sun Belt Conference. Townsel and Peterson along with Western
Kentucky's Jamal Crook, Tony Mitchell of North Texas, and Augustine Rubit of
South Alabama comprised the five-member team for November 2012. Rubit was also recognized as the November CollegeHoopsDaily's SBC Player
of the Month.
Townsel,
who currently leads the Red Wolves in scoring this season with a 15.3 points
per game average in seven contests, recorded a team-best 17.0 points and 2.0
rebounds an outing in six November appearances.
The 6-0, 166-pound backcourt player tallied a squad-most 102 points to
go with 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and 13 steals in 197 minutes of action. Townsel, a junior guard, connected on 43.9
percent (36-82) shooting from the floor to go with 45.7 percent (21-46) in
three-point shooting and 69.2 percent (9-13) at the free throw line while
averaging 32.8 minutes per game. Townsel
compiled double-figure scoring in all six of A-State's November contests, which
included a career game-high 27 points versus Lamar (11/25). He also established personal bests against
Lamar in both three-point field goals made (six) and steals (seven).
Peterson
paced A-State in both rebounding (10.2 rpg.) and blocked shots (2.3 bpg.) while
averaging a team second-best 11.2 points per game as a starter in all six
November ASU outings. The 6-8, 217-pound
senior forward racked up 61 rebounds, including 25 offensive boards, while
scoring 67 points in 210 minutes of playing time for the month. Peterson, who averaged 35.0 minutes per
contest, shot 51.0 percent (26-51) from the floor and 65.2 percent (15-23) at
the charity stripe. He closed out the
month with double-digit point totals in each of the last five Red Wolves' games,
which featured a pair of double-doubles – 12 points and 15 rebounds against
Arkansas-Monticello (11/13) and then a 12-point, 13-rebound effort against
Lamar (11/25).
The
Red Wolves host the St. Bonaventure Bonnies this Saturday, Dec. 8, in a
2:05 p.m. (CT) non-conference contest at the ASU Convocation Center in
