ASU Tennis Set to Take on UCA in Season Opener and Announces Several Schedule Changes

JONESBORO, Ark. (1/24/13) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team will take on the University of Central Arkansas in its opening match of the spring season today at 2 p.m. in Little Rock.  The tennis program also announced several schedule changes.

A-State was able to record a 7-0 victory over the Sugar Bears last season in Jonesboro.  The Red Wolves will be led by senior Ioana Teu and sophomore Tamara Slijepcevic.  Teu looks to improve upon her 11-7 singles record from last season and gained valuable experience this fall with new doubles partner junior Janie Nowland.  Slijepcevic was 17-2 in the No. 2 singles spot and carries over a nine-match winning streak from last season.  Nowland and fellow junior Biljana Miloshevska will also play key roles for the Red Wolves.

The Red Wolves' home opener is now slated for 9 a.m. on Feb. 3 at Ridgepoint Country Club against Sun Belt Conference foe Troy.  A week later on Feb. 10 Arkansas State will take on Murray State in a home non-conference match at Allen Park scheduled for 5 p.m.  All other home matches will be at Allen Park, weather permitting.

A-State has added a non-conference match at Southeast Missouri on Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. and will close out the month with two conference matches.  ASU will play Florida Atlantic on Feb. 22 and will take on Florida International with a new start time of noon on Feb. 24.

Arkansas State will start March off on the road against Northwestern State on March 2, and the match now has a start time of 11 a.m.  The Red Wolves will play at Lamar on March 3 before returning home for two non-conference matches against Evansville on March 9 and SIU-Carbondale on March 24.  ASU will take on Louisiana-Lafayette in a conference road match on March 29 and will round out the month with a non-conference match at McNeese State on March 31 with a new start time of noon.
