Ark. (3/6/13) – Senior forward Brandon
Peterson of Arkansas State University has been selected to the College Sports Madness' 2012-13 Sun Belt
Conference Men's Basketball Team as released this Wednesday (March 6) by the
online information service.
Peterson,
who recently earned second-team All-SBC plaudits this 2012-13 season, was tabbed a
fourth-team selection by College Sports Madness.
The
6-8 forward is averaging a team-leading 9.4 rebounds and a squad third-best
10.2 points per contest (297 pts.) this season.
A starter in all 29 ASU games, Peterson presently is tops among
A-State's players in rebounds (272), blocked shots (36), free throws made (83),
minutes played (956), and is tied for the team lead in field goal percentage
(.514). Peterson, who has compiled a
career single-season most 10 double-doubles this campaign, has tallied
double-figure scoring in 18 games while producing double-digit rebounds in 14
contests.
Peterson,
who was recognized as the College Sports
Madness' SBC Player of the Week (2/18), currently ranks 12th
among the Sun Belt Conference's all-time leaders in 857 career rebounds (857) and
is 19th in blocked shots (159).
Peterson
holds the distinction of being the seventh player in Red Wolves' history to accumulate
1,000 points (1,070 pts.) and 800 rebounds (857 rebs.). The 2011-12 College Sports Madness' Third-Team All-SBC honoree is the program's 25th
individual to score 1,000 points and the eighth ASU player to compile 800
rebounds in a career.
The
Red Wolves, who are the number two seed in this weekend's (March 8-11) 2013 Sun
Belt Conference Championship Tournament and the 2012-13 SBC West Division
Champions, will face the winner of the Florida Atlantic-Troy contest this
Saturday (March 9) in a 9 p.m. (CT) second-round matchup at Hot Springs, Ark.
A-State currently sports an 18-11 overall record
this season, which includes a first-place 12-8 SBC West Division mark.
