QUICK SHOTS

• This season will mark the 39th for women's basketball at Arkansas State. 

 

• The Red Wolves have an all-time record of 201-137 against league teams.

• This will be the the 26th meeting all-time between the Red Wolves and the Golden Panthers

    with FIU holding a 17-8 all-time series edge.

• ASU is 20-21 all-time in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

• The Red Wolves will be making their 21st trip to the Sun Belt Conference Championship when 

    the tournament gets underway Friday in Hot Springs. The Red Wolves have advanced to 

    semifinals in 15 of those years, including the 2011 tournament.

Hanna Qedan set a new career-high with five 3-pointers against North Texas on Feb. 27.

• ASU is 15-2 in games in which it outscores its opponent in the second half.

• A-State has knocked down a 3-pointer in 118 straight games.

• ASU wrapped up its home sechdule on Feb. 23 against Troy. The Red Wolves finished 10-5 at 

   home and a 7-3 record at the Convocation Center in the Sun Belt Conference. 

• A-State led wire-to-wire for just the second time all season against Troy on Feb. 23. ASU never 

   trailed in the game and also never trailed in the Jan. 30 game against South Alabama.

• Sophomore Hanna Qedan was held scoreless for the first time in her last 19 games against 

   UALR on Feb. 13. 

• Arkansas State won just its fifth game against Western Kentucky in Bowling with its 78-74 win 

   on Feb. 9. It also marked just the third time in school history that ASU had taken the regular 

   season series from the Lady Toppers.

• A-State's victory over WKU was also its second straight win in Bowling Green, marking the 

    first time in school history that ASU has won back-to-back games in Bowling Green.

Ashley Olvera surpassed 200 for career against WKU on Feb. 9. She is just the 15th A-State 

    player to reach that milestone.

• Q McDowell has started in 104 straight games.

• A-State shot 52.6 percent from the field on Feb. 9, marking the fourth time this year that ASU 

   has shot above 50 percent for a game. ASU is 3-1 in those games.

• Junior forward Jane Morrill became the first 21st player in ASU women's basketball 

    history to record 1,000 points for her career on Feb. 3. 

• With its victory over South Alabama on Jan. 30, the Red Wolves equaled their win total (12) 

   from a year ago.

• ASU's loss to North Texas snapped a seven game winning streak for the Red Wolves, which 

   was tied for the sixth longest in school history.

• Senior guard Ashley Olvera set a new career high with 23 points against FAU on Jan. 26.

• Junior forward Jane Morrill had her third career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds     

   against Florida Atlantic on Jan. 26.

Brian Boyer is in third place on the all-time career wins list in the Sun Belt Conference with 

   123 career conference victories in women's basketball.      

Hanna Qedan recorded the first double-double of her career against Troy on Jan. 24. The 

   sophomore scored 19 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in the victory. 

• ASU has had at least three players score in double figures 12 times this season and has a 

   9-3 record in those games.

• ASU assistant coach Sonja Tate was recently selected to the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame Class 

   of 2013.

Hanna Qedan scored a career high 22 points and made a career best nine free throws 

    and tied a career high with three, 3-pointers against Middle Tennessee on Jan. 2. 

• Freshman Jalen O'Bannon scored a career high 23 points against Troy on Jan. 24.

• ASU tied a season high with seven 3-pointers against Middle Tennessee and shot a season high   

   .583 (7-12) from beyond the arc.

• A-State shot a season high 59.6 percent from the field against Louisiana-Lafayette on Dec. 22. 

   That mark missed the all-time school record by just 3.6 precentage points, which was set last 

   season against UT-Martin.

• Junior Jane Morrill was voted a second-team SBC All-Conference selection after leading ASU 

    in both scoring and rebounding last season.

• ASU is in its 19th season of competition in the Sun Belt Conference.

Brian Boyer is in his 14th season as the head coach of the ASU women's basketball team.  

   He is the only coach in ASU history (men's or women's) to win 200 games and is the school's 

   all-time winningest basketball coach.

• Junior forward Jane Morrill was selected as a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection by 

   College Sports Maddness.

• Seven of ASU's 15 players are from the state of Arkansas. The list includes Hanna Qedan, Andi 

   Watson, Jessica Flanery, Sandy Jackson, Xena King, Lindsey Killough and Brittney Gill.

Brian Boyer is 103-95 all-time against non-conference opponents.

 

 

ARKANSAS STATE/FIU HISTORY

• This will be the the 26th meeting all-time between the Red Wolves and the Golden Panthers

   with FIU holding a 17-8 all-time series edge.

• ASU defeated FIU 60-57 back on Nov. 29 to start league play.

• ASU completed the season sweep of FIU on Jan. 9 with a 49-43 victory at the Convocation 

   Center.

• ASU was one of two teams to pickup two victories over FIU this season. ULM also defeated the 

   Golden Panthers two times this year. 

• This will be the first time that ASU and FIU have played each other in the SBC Tournament. 

• ASU coach Brian Boyer is 8-11 lifetime against the Golden Panthers.

 

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN PANTHERS

• FIU finished the regular season with a 18-11 overall record and a 12-8 record in Sun Belt 

   Conference play.

• Jerica Coley, who was named the SBC's Player of the Year, led the nation in scoring with 26.1 

   points per game. 

• FIU finished in the SBC East Division.

• FIU enters the game having lost two out of their final three games. They ended the regular 

   season with a 68-65 victory over Florida Atlantic.

• Coley recently became just the second player to record 2,000 career points and 300 career 

    assists in FIU history.

• FIU head coach Cindy Russo is the ninth-winngest coach in Division I women's basketball.

 

A-STATE IN THE SBC TOURNAMENT

• ASU is 20-21 all-time in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

• The Red Wolves are 3-3 in the tournament since it moved to Hot Springs.

• The Red Wolves will be making their 21st trip to the Sun Belt Conference Championship when 

    the tournament gets underway Friday in Hot Springs. The Red Wolves have advanced to 

    semifinals in 15 of those years, including the 2011 tournament.

• Arkansas State recahed the SBC Tournament final in 1992, losing to Western Kentucky 65-62

    in their only appearance in the championship game.

 

WRAPPING UP THE REGULAR SEASON

• ASU finished the year with a 15-14 overall record during the regular season and went 12-8 in 

   SBC play.

• A-State had a 10-5 record at home and was 5-9 on the road. 

• ASU finished second in the SBC West Division for the second since the 2006-07 season.

• The Red Wolves have guaranteed themselves at least .500 or better finish for 10th time during 

    the Brian Boyer era.

• The Red Wolves won at least 10 games in SBC play for the sixth time in the Brian Boyer era. 

 

MORRILL NAMED SECOND-TEAM ALL-SBC

• For the second straight season ASU forward Jane Morrill has been named as a second-team All-

   Sun Belt Conference selection. 

• Morrill was an All-SBC second-team selection in 2011 and was also a 2012-13 Preseason All-SBC 

   second-team selection.

• Morrill averaged 14.7 points per game during the regular season, the highest scoring average 

    on the team. 

• She also shot 52.4 percent from the field on the year, the third highest mark in the SBC and the 

   30th best percentage in the nation.

 

GETTING DEFENSIVE

• The Red Wolves held opponents to 56.4 points per game over their final five games.

• A-State did not allow a team to score more than 58 points during the stretch and allowed 

   opponents to score an average of just 60.5 points per contest during the season.

 

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST

• Senior Quinishia McDowell has had one of the best seasons in her four-year career in terms of 

   shooting this year.

• She shot 39.6 percent from the field during the regular season, surpassing her previous high of 

   36.6 percent.

•  She also shot a career best 64.7 percent from the free throw line.

 

FRESHMAN CONTRIBUTIONS

• ASU has played six freshman this season who have combined to play 1,000 of the Red Wolves' 

   5,800 minutes this year. 

Jalen O'Bannon has played the most of any of the freshman, logging 543 minutes of court time. 

• She also averaged 8.9 points per game, the second most on the team behind Jane Morrill

 

SCORING BIG IN THE TOURNAMENT 

• ASU has averaged 65.5 points per game in 41 Sun Belt Conference Tournament games.

• In 41 SBC Tournament games, the Red Wolves have failed to score at least 50 points just three 

   times. 

 

RACKING UP CONFERENCE WINS 

• A-State's 12 Sun Belt Conference victories are the second most ever for the team during its time 

    in the SBC (1991-Present).

• ASU recorded 13 wins during the 2007-08 season.

• The most wins ever for ASU in any conference was 15 when it was a member of AWISA in 1979-

    1980 and 1980-81 when it had 15 in both seasons.

 

TAMING THE NATION'S LEADING SCORER

• Arkansas State was the only Sun Belt Conference team to hold FIU's Jerica Coley under 20 

   points in both meetings this season. 

• ASU held the Nation's scoring leader to just 14 points in their first meeting on Nov. 29

•  She then scored just 15 points in Jonesboro on Jan. 9. 

 

QEDAN HEATS UP FROM OUTSIDE

• Sophomore Hanna Qedan knocked down a career-high five, '3s' against North Texas on Feb. 27.

• She leads the team with 35 made 3-pointers on the year.

• She ranks seventh in the SBC in 3-pointers made. 

 

O'BANNON HITTING STRIDE

• Freshman forward Jalen O'Bannon has averaged 14.7 per game in her last six outings.

• She has also shot at least 54 percent from the field during in each of her last five games.

• O'Bannon has also hit 29-of-39 (71.8 percent) free throws during this stretch.

 

SENIORS SHINE IN FINAL HOME GAME

Quinishia McDowell, Andi Watson and Ashley Olvera combined to score 16 points, pull down 19 

   rebounds and dish out six assists in their final game at the Convocation Center.

Andi Watson made her first start since Dec. 15 and scored eight points and grabbed four 

   rebounds in 27 minutes of action.

 

MILESTONE FOR BOYER

• ASU head coach Brian Boyer earned his 225th career win with the 77-58 victory over ULM on 

   Feb. 16. 

• Boyer is the only coach in ASU basketball history (men's or women's) to win over 200 career games.

 

OLVERA TIES CAREER HIGH

Ashley Olvera tied a career high with nine rebounds against Troy on Feb. 23. 

• She has dished out 118 assists on the year and is averaging 4.0 assists per game.

 

WINNING THE SECOND HALF

• A-State is 15-2 when outscoring its opponnent in the second half. 

• The Red Wolves are averaging 32.6 points in the second half this season.

• ASU is also shooting 45.7 percent from the field in the second half this year.

 

MCDOWELL IN RARE COMPANY

• Records indicate that Q McDowell is one of just three A-State players to start in over 100 games 

   for her career. 

• She has started in 104 straight games.

• Her last non-start was on Dec. 30, 2009 against Denver.

• Adrianne Davie started in 113 straight gamed from 2004-07. 

• Rudy Sims started in 112 straight games from 2004-2007.

• The senior guard is also closing in on 1,000 points for her career. She currently has 911 career 

   points. 

 

FINISHING THE 3-POINT PLAY

Carlette Wyatt accomplished a rare oddity on the basketball court on Feb. 16 at ULM when she 

   completed two 3-point plays that she did not start.

• Wyatt finished a 3-point play that was originally started by Hanan Qedan in the first half by 

    knocking down the free throw after subbing in for Qedan.

• Wyatt did the same in the second half after subbing in for Jane Morrill after she was fouled.

• She finished the day just 2-of-2 from the free thow line.

 

A RARITY IN BOWLING GREEN

• Arkansas State won just its fifth game against Western Kentucky in Bowling Green with its 78-74

REACHING A MILESTONE

O'BANNON'S SCORING DRIVES ASU

• Freshman Jalen O'Bannon has scored in double digits 13 times this season and the Red 

   Wolves have an 10-3 record in those games. 

 

SHOOTING ABOVE 50 PERCENT

• ASU shot 52.6 percent from the field against Western Kentucky, marking the sixth time this 

    year that ASU has shot above 50 percent in a game.

• The Red Wolves are 5-1 in games in which they shoot 50 percent and above.

• ASU shot a season high 59.6 percent from the field against Louisiana-Lafayette on Dec. 22.

• That mark missed the all-time record by just 3.6 precentage points, which was set last season 

   against UT-Martin.

• A-State shot 64.3 percent from the field against the Ragin' Cajuns in the second half, which was 

   its high field goal percentage in a half this year.

 

REACHING 1,000

• Junior forward Jane Morrill reached 1,000 points for her career on Feb. 3, becoming the 21st 

   player in ASU women's basketball history to reach the mark.

• She ranks 16th on ASU's all-time career scoring list with 1,107 career points. 

 

CLOSING OUT JANUARY 

• A-State finished the month of January with a 7-1 record.

• The Red Wolves shot 45.9 percent from the field during the month and defeated its opponents  

   by an average of 9.1 points per game.

 

STREAK COMES TO AN END

• A-State's seven game winning streak came to an end on Feb. 3 with a 64-62 loss to North Texas.

• The seven game winning streak was tied for the sixth longest in school history. 

Hanna Qedan was ASU's leading scorer during the run, averaging 13.9 points per contest.

• In fact, four A-State players have averaged in double-figures during the winning streak. Jane 

   Morrill averaged 12.3 points per night, while Ashley Olvera poured in 12.0 points. Freshman 

   Jalen O'Bannon is averaged 11.9 points per game during the run.

• The Red Wolves won by an average of 10.7 points per game during the streak. 

 

OLVERA THE PLACE 

• Senior point guard Ashley Olvera scored a career high 23 points against Florida Atlantic on Jan. 

  26. 

• She went 9-of-22 from the field, with two 3-pointers and three made free throws. She also 

   dished out four assists and had one steal. 

 

MORRILL DOUBLE DOWNS

• Junior forward Jane Morrill recorded her third career double-double with 16 points and 10 

   rebounds against FAU on Jan. 26. 

• She also posted a double-double earlier this season with 23 points and 11 rebounds against 

   Southeast Missouri State on Nov. 19. 

 

STEALING THE SHOW......ONCE AGAIN

• ASU set a new season high with 12 steals against Troy on Jan. 24. 

• It marked the fifth time this season that ASU had recorded at least 11 steals in a game. The

   previous occurances were against WKU (1/6) Austin Peay (12/17), Missouri State (12/15) and 

   USC (11/21).

 

QEDAN'S QUEST

• Sophomore Hanna Qedan continued her stellar play this season by posting her first career 

    double-double on Jan. 24 at Troy. She scored 19 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.

• Her 14 rebounds were a career high.

• Against Middle Tennessee she set a new career mark with 22 points, shattering her previous 

   career high of 12 earlier this season against Austin Peay. 

• She also set a career high with nine made free throws against the Blue Raiders on 10 attempts.

 

DEFENDING THE '3'

• ASU has been superb at defending the 3-point shot this season. A-State owns the nation's 

   eighth best 3-point defensive percentage at 25.2 percent. 

• ASU has not allowed an opponent to make a '3' in three games this year. ASU held FIU to an 0-

   21 mark from beyond the arc in both matchups this season. The Red Wolves also did not  allow 

   Wichita State to make a 3-pointer on Nov. 29.  

• Wichita State went 0-7 from 3-point land in its game on Nov. 29. 

 

O'BANNON SHINES

• Freshman Jalen O'Bannon enjoyed one of the best games of her young career on Jan. 24.

• She scored a career high 23 points and a career high nine rebounds to just barely miss 

   recording her first career double-double. 

• Her previous career high in points was 13, which she had scored in two previous games this 

   season.

• On Dec. 22 she went 6-for-6 from the field against Louisiana-Lafayette which is tied for the 

   highest field goal percentage by an ASU player in the Convocation Center in school history.    

   Only four other players, with a minimum of five attempts, have gone perfect from the field.

 

GETTING BENCH PRODUCTION

• The ASU bench has scored in double-digits in 24 of ASU's 29 games this season.

• The bench scored a season high 31 points against Troy on Jan. 24

• The bench has scored 29 points twice this season (vs. ULL and UT-Martin) and also scored 28 against USC.

 

MIXING AND MATCHING

• ASU has used six different starting lineups this season.

• The starting lineup of Jane Morrill, Carlisha Wyatt, Hanna Qedan, Q McDowell and Ashley 

   Olvera went 7-3, including a seven-game winning streak.

 

COACH BOYER MOVES UP WINS LIST

Brian Boyer is in third place on the all-time career wins list in the Sun Belt Conference with 

   123 career conference victories in women's basketball.       

• Leon Barmore (1991-2001) is first on the list with 135 wins, while current FIU coach Cindy 

    Russo is second.

• Among active coaches (men's or women's) ranks second. Only Cindy Russo has more SBC wins.

 

THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER

• A-State has had three or more players score in double figures 15 times this season.

• The Red Wolves are 11-4 in those games, with the most recent coming over WKU  on Feb. 9.

 

KEEPING THE OPPONENT UNDER 59

• The Red Wolves have held opponents to under 59 points in 12 of their 15 victories this 

   season. In three victories ASU has held the opponent to under 50 points.

 

COACH TATE A HALL OF FAMER

• Current A-State assistant assistant coach and former player Sonja Tate has been selected as a 

   part of the Arkansas Hall of Fame Class of 2013.

• She remains the leader in six statistical categories at ASU and scored 2,312 points in her career, 

   the most of any men's or women's basketball player in school history.  

 

NATIONALLY SPEAKING

• A-State's Jane Morrill ranks 30th in the nation with a 52.4 field percentage on the year. 

• Morrill also ranks 46th in the nation in free throw percentage, hitting 83.5 percent for the year.

• As a team, A-State ranks 26th with a 43.7 field goal percentage. 

 

DISHING IT OUT

Ashley Olvera dished out a season high 9 assists against ULL on Dec 22., missing her career 

  high by just one.  

Ashley Olvera has a 45 game active assist streak dating back to the 2011-12 season. 

• She ranks 14th on ASU's all-time career assists list with 221 for her career. Danielle Featherston 

   is 15th on the list with 204 for her career.

• As a team, A-State had a season high 19 assists against ULL on Dec. 22.

 

WATSON LIGHTS IT UP FROM OUTSIDE

• Senior Andi Watson had a career day from beyond the 3-point line against the Ragin' Cajuns on 

   Dec. 22. She hit three straight 3-pointers and finished the game 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.

• Her previous career high in 3-pointers made in a game had been two, and before the Dec. 22 

   game she had made just eight 3-pointers in her career.

 

LEADER OF THE PACK

• Junior Jane Morrill has lead ASU in scoring 14 times this season. She has been the leading 

   scorer in 7 of A-State's 14 wins.

• She has also been the team's leading rebounder 13 times this season. 

• Against Austin Peay, Morrill set a career high with 11 free throws made. She also sent a career 

   high with 15 free throw attempts. 

• Morrill has posted back-to-back 20 point games. She scored 21 points against Nicholls State      

   and then added 22 against Louisiana-Lafayette. 

 

WINNING AND WINNING BIG

• ASU's 31-point victory over Austin Peay was its largest margin of victory over an opponent    

   since the 2008-09 season when it defeated Northern Arizona 71-40. 

• The last time ASU defeated an opponent by a larger margin was the 2006-07 when it defeated 

   Arkansas-Pine Bluff 87-55 for a 32 point victory.

 

STREAKING BEYOND THE ARC

• ASU has knocked down a 3-pointer in 118 straight games.

• The streak has came to close to ending in ASU's first two regular season games. Jessica Flanery   

    kept the streak alive with a '3' against Toledo with just six seconds left in the game and Jane 

    Morrill knocked down ASU's first '3' of the game against UT-Martin with just 28 seconds left in 

    the game.

• Flanery's '3' against Toledo was the first field goal of her career.

• The last time A-State did not make a '3' was on Nov. 20, 2009 against Virginia Commonwealth 

   when the Red Wolves went 0-11 from behind the 3-point line.
