FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (3/1/13) - The final regular-season indoor track and field competition for selected members of the Arkansas State University women's and men's teams was held this Friday (March 1) at the Arkansas Final Qualifier in Fayetteville, Ark.

Junior Sharika Nelvis was the top women's performer for ASU as she recorded a second-place showing in the long jump by covering a distance of 20-05.75 (6.24m).  The 2013 Sun Belt Conference's (SBC) Most Outstanding Women's Indoor Track Performer captured fourth-place honors in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.63 time.

In the shot put, senior Julia Agawu placed third by turning in a throw of 48-08.25 (14.84m).  Agawu registered a 60-04.50 (18.40m) effort in the weight throw event to earn fourth-place recognition.

Junior Chris Nicasio produced 60-05.25 (18.42m) in the men's weight throw to net second place.

A pair of seniors, Solomon Williams and Lucas Bateman competed in the 60-meter hurdles.  Williams clocked an 8.03 time to claim fourth while Bateman's 8.24 time earned him seventh-place honors.  Junior Ethan Sandusky would take 15th place in the pole vault by clearing the bar at 16-10.75 (5.15m).  Junior Shane Heathcock garnered 19th place with a 16-04.75 (5.00m) effort.

While in the past automatic and provisional qualifying marks were used to select the field for the NCAA Championships, all guidelines have been removed this season. Just the top-16 performers in individual events and the top 12 eligible relay teams will advance to the 2013 NCAA Division I Indoor Track Championships, which are to be held March 8-9 at the University of Arkansas' Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
