Markie Schaedig was named a student assistant coach for the A-State volleyball program on Aug. 16, 2017.
Schaedig helped the Red Wolves' defensive specialists and liberos in her first season as a student assistant. The team averaged 15.42 digs per set to rank as fourth best in the Sun Belt Conference and she helped Tatum Ticknor garner Second-Team All-SBC honors. Ticknor ended the season with a 4.93 digs per set average to rank third in the conference.
A native of Little Rock, Ark., Schaedig will help coach the team's back row and libero, the position she excelled at for the last three seasons at A-State. She was the program's first All-American with Honorable Mention honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in 2014 and claimed the accolade once again to become the Red Wolves' first two-time All-American.
Additionally, Schaedig was a three-time Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year from 2014-16 and was First-Team All-SBC all three of those seasons. She garnered AVCA All-Southwest Region accolades from 2014-16 and finished with the third most digs in school history with 2,153 during her four-year career. She set the school record for digs in a season in 2014 with 762 and led the nation with a 6.68 per set mark.

SENIOR SEASON (2016): Appeared in all 33 matches and played in all 115 sets as libero ... named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the third year in a row ... claimed AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors for second time in career, becoming first two-time All-American in school history ... also garnered All-American Honorable Mention accolades from PrepVolleyball.com ... earned AVCA All-Southwest Region recognition for third consecutive season ... was named SBC Defensive Player of the Week twice for 12 career awards, tied for most all-time in league ... FRESHMAN SEASON (2013): Played in 125 of A-State's 133 sets as a defensive specialist, starting in 19 matches, while playing in 33 total ... recorded double-digit digs in eight matches, including a season-high 20 against Texas State Oct. 11 ... second on the team with 245 digs and third on the team with a 1.96 digs per set average ... tied for fourth on the team with 17 service aces and had a season-high four aces against Idaho State Aug. 30.
