A-State Tennis Falls Short at Home
JONESBORO, Ark. (3/4/17) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team lost to Abilene Christian 6-1 in the first outdoor home match of the season at the A-State Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
Julie Gauguery improved her record 7-2 of the year with 7-5, 6-2 victory over Erin Walker in the No. 1 match. Gauguery captured the only point of the day for A-State and now holds the best record of the season for any Red Wolves’ player in singles’ competition on the year.
Sabina Jeresic lost to Whitney Williams 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 match, while Shannon O'Brien fell to Lucile Pothier 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 match. In the No. 4 match, Victoria Pisani lost to Sarah Adams 6-0, 6-1, while Tori Roberts suffered a 6-4, 7-5 setback to Henry Jordan in the No. 5 match. Allison Quammen also suffered a loss in the No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat Elizabeth Ryan.
Abilene Christian won all three doubles matches to take the point thanks to a pair of 6-4 victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches. Gauguery and O’Brien fell to Walker and Adams 6-4, while Pisani and Jeresic lost to Williams and Pothier by the same score. In the No. 3 Roberts and Quammen lost to Ansley Boarman and Henry 7-6.
The Red Wolves will conclude their three match weekend with a road match at Central Arkansas Sunday afternoon. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
