LINCOLN, Neb. (3/4/17) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team registered a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over host Nebraska to claim the Big Red Invitational Championship Saturday at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb.

A-State (69-28) fell behind 2-1 in in the championship match to the Cornhuskers after losses in game one (218-203) and game three (226-203) sandwiched around a game two win (229-204). However, the Red Wolves bowled 10 consecutive strikes to finish game four and won 280-206 to even things at 2-2. Arkansas State rolled a 210 to Nebraska’s 180 in game five, but the Cornhuskers won game six 216-193 to force game seven. The Red Wolves bowled outstanding in the decisive game to win 267-197 and clinch their second tournament championship of the season.

“As a team we got tired of losing,” A-State head women are bowling coach Justin Kostick said. “When that happens you work hard to get better. Now that we have won again we have to continue to get better because teams like Nebraska and McKendree will now go work hard to beat us. We need to build off this and not get cocky, but be confident and continue to get better.”

A-State had a bye to advance to the championship match by virtue of having the best pinfall after the first two days. The Red Wolves had three players earn all-tournament status with Jordan Richard claiming the MVP posting a total pinfall of 1,234 (246.80 per game). Jordan’s sister Haley Richard was second with 1,183 total pins (236.60 per game) and Jadee Scott-Jones was fourth with 1,161 pins (232.20 per game) as the East Providence, R.I., native earned her first all-tournament nod of the year.

“Jordan and Haley finished one and two as sisters is impressive and Jadee making her first all-tournament team this year is great,” Kostick continued. “I’m really proud of all of them along with Julia Huren and Brooke Wood because they all finished in the top eight.”

The 1,247 the Red Wolves rolled yesterday in the win over Valparaiso was a school record as A-State was hot almost all weekend. Arkansas State returns to action March 17-19 at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tenn.
