A-State Tennis Suffers 6-1 Setback Against La Tech
JONESBORO, Ark. (3/18/17) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team lost to La Tech by a score of 6-1 at the A-State Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Julie Gauguery captured the only point of the afternoon for the Red Wolves with a thrilling three set victory against the Lady Techsters Jasmin Britos. Gauguery lost the first set 6-2, but battled back to win the second set 7-5 and then rallied in the tie break set for a 10-5 win.
Shannon O'Brien lost the No. 2 match despite a three set contest as well. The true freshman took the first set 7-6 over Nadija Manjon, but then lost the second set 6-0 and the third set 10-4.
Victoria Pisani lost to Sonia Chen in the No. 3 match, 6-2, 6-3, while Tori Roberts fell to Alba Escalona Perny 6-3, 6-2. Allison Quammen rounded out singles competition with a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Marta Sramkova.
Sabina Jeresic did not play on the day due to injury and La Tech was awarded the point the No. 6 match by default.
In the doubles’ point, Quammen and Gauguery lost to Sramkova and Manjon 6-2, while O’Brien and Roberts were losing to Britos and Perny 5-2 when the point was decided.
The tennis team will continue action next weekend when it opens Sun Belt Conference play at home against UT Arlington. First serve is set for Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
