JONESBORO, Ark. (8/13/17) – The Arkansas State women's soccer team closed its preseason exhibition schedule with a 2-0 victory over Jackson State Sunday afternoon at the A-State Soccer Park.

Freshman Sarah Sodoma added to an impressive start to the year by scoring in both the 49th and 78th minutes. Her first goal was setup by a series of passes from Amy Andrea and Hailey Furio to find space for the striker, who put away a clean look for a 1-0 lead.

Sodoma scored again in the 78th minute on a rebound after a Lindsey Brochu shot was saved by the Jackson State goalkeeper, but failed to collect the rebound, which found the waiting foot of Sodoma who put away the goal for a 2-0 edge.

In the Red Wolves' two exhibition matches, Sodoma scored four goals and lead the team with seven shots on goal.

Arkansas State put the pressure on the Tigers throughout the match and took 23 shots, 13 of which landed on target. Sodoma just missed an opportunity at a hat trick later in the match, while Maggie Ertl and Shayla Dixon each had good looks on target that narrowly missed going into the back of the net.

“This really just completed the preseason for us,” A-State head coach Brian Dooley said. “When you are able to get a couple of games against some opponents you can go back and watch some film and see what we need to start putting together when the regular season starts next week.”

The Red Wolves utilized a three goalkeeper system on the afternoon with Megan McClure earning the start. Kelsey Ponder played the second period, while Alexis Philippe closed out the match in the third period. None of the three were tested as they combined for the second clean sheet of the preseason.

The Red Wolves will turn their attention to the regular season opener set for Friday, Aug. 18 at Missouri State.
