KENOSHA, Wis. (11/12/17) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team won the Warhawk Classic for the second straight season after defeating Nebraska in seven games Sunday in the championship match of the event being held at Sheridan Lanes in Kenosha, Wis.

A-State (27-12) and the Cornhuskers split the first two games of the championship match with Nebraska winning game one247-220 before a 180-160 Arkansas State victory in the second. The Cornhuskers won games three (257-236) and four (182-173) to get to the brink of the title, but the Red Wolves responded with a 99-pin victory in game five (277-178) and a 211-193 triumph to force the decisive game seven. A-State out pinned Nebraska 216-171 in game seven to clinch the championship and give the team its first tournament title of the 2017-18 campaign.

Arkansas State began the day with a tough 4-3 loss to Nebraska in a match that saw the two squads split the first four games. A-State won game five 257-225 before the Cornhuskers won games six (219-190) and seven (235-165) to clinch a spot in the title match and force the Red Wolves to earn their way back to a rematch.

The Red Wolves were able to do just that as the squad swept Vanderbilt 4-0 (201-177, 195-184, 235-214, 213-159) to set up the championship tilt with the Cornhuskers where A-State was able to avenge its earlier loss to claim the title.

Arkansas State ended the event at 9-4 as the team has registered a 9-4 record at all three tournaments so far this season. Jordan Richard was named to the All-Tournament team after finishing third in the individual standings to give her two for the season and the 15th of her career, which is just one shy of tying the school record. Leah Glazer was the MVP of the Kat Klash to represent the other All-Tournament accolade of the season so far for the team.

A-State returns to action in 2018 as the squad opens the spring portion of its schedule Jan. 12-14 in its home tournament, the Mid-Winter Invitational. The event will be held at Hijinx Family Entertainment Center in Jonesboro.
