MURRAY, Ky. (04/06/18) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team completed the first two rounds of the Jan Weaver Invitational, hosted by Murray State, Friday in fifth place among 14 teams after shooting a 36-hole 603.

Arkansas State carded a first-round 305, and then improved to post a second-round 298. The Red Wolves currently sit only one stroke behind fourth-place ULM and trail third-place Austin Peay by five strokes.

Three A-State players finished the day among the top-25 individual leaders, including junior Aracelly Jimenez Rios, who is tied for third place after carding a 73 and 74 for a combined 147. Junior Beth Ann Compton is tied for 16th place after posting a first-round 76 before improving in the second round to score a 74 and end the day with a 150. Senior Sarah Childers carded a two-round 152 after posting a 76 both rounds to tie for 25th place.

Also competing for the Red Wolves, sophomore Grayson Gladden carded a first-round 80 before improving to score a second-round 74 to tie for 34th place and finishing the day with a 154. Senior Emma Miller is tied for 68th place after recording an 82 for each round, giving her a 164 total.

Competing as an individual, freshman Maria Jose Atristain Vega is tied for 40th place after recording a 79 in the first round and then improving in the second round to register a 76. She closed out the day with a 36-hole total of 155.

The third-and-final round will be played Tuesday.
